Manic Street Preachers Return With International Blue

Manic Street Preachers are back with their first new music in three years. International Blue is the lead single from the Welsh trio’s forthcoming album Resistance Is Futile and spiritually marks a return to their punk-rock roots following the electronic influences that characterised 2014’s Futurology album. “The track itself is carried by the kind of naive energy that powered Motorcycle Emptiness,” admits lyricist Nicky Wire. Adds singer-guitarist James Dean Bradfield, who writes the band’s music with drummer Sean Moore: “Often I just need a great title to set me off. Seeing the word blue struck a chord and set off...

Placebo, 20 Years Strong

21 years ago, an unassuming alt-rock trio brought their teenage angst to the forefront of rock music with a blistering debut record, which took flight in 1997 with the release of fifth single Nancy Boy, catapulting the outsiders to the top 5 in the UK singles charts, a similar feat achieved with their eponymous debut. But if, like me, you also picked up both copies of each of Placebo’s singles, you were exposed to an even richer extension to that debut with incredible tunes such as covers of Syd Barrett’s Dark Globe and The Smiths’ Bigmouth Strikes Again alongside...
