Photography: Victorious Festival 2017

It’s rather pleasant outside and whilst we’re still occasionally getting a whiff of Indian Summer, there’s no stopping the inevitable slide into rain, wind, gutters full of leaves and longer evenings. What better time then to hark back to images of three of the best days of weather and music that Summer 2017 had to offer: Victorious Festival. Of course, you don’t only go to the seaside for the sun, and Southsea’s 2017 Victorious Festival had arguably its finest ever line up this year. When the sun goes down, the party continues… …and the headliners come out to play....

Victorious Festival 2017, Three Days of Southsea Sunshine

I am local to Portsmouth, and I admit that I became slightly concerned before attending my third Victorious Festival. Victorious refuses to stop growing. It engulfs the entire city, with stages on the southernmost coast, and a new campsite on Portsmouth’s northernmost border. With victory after victory (just thought I would get the references to being ‘victorious’ out of the way), it felt as though it might disastrously shut down Portsmouth for the bank holiday. Perhaps that is destined to happen one year, but the strongest line-up yet spearheaded by Madness, Stereophonics and Elbow, along with abnormally gorgeous weather, made...

Live: Victorious Festival 2016

Victorious refuses to stop growing. Every year causing a massive shutdown of the city, as the festival performances expand to dominate every square inch that southern Portsmouth has to spare. One can’t begin to imagine what pressure is on the musicians, to be the centre of a city’s attention. The sheer size of the crowd seeking that energy even seems to perplex a traditionally blunt Bob Geldof of Eighties new wavers The Boomtown Rats – “what the f— are you all doing up so early on a Saturday afternoon?”. It is just as well that the eccentric performance full of skipping about the stage...

The festival for music lovers a stone’s throw from the sea, second wave (get it) of acts announced.  Victorious Festival is delighted to announce their second wave of acts appearing over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Pioneers of melodic indie, Scottish band, Travis make a fantastic addition to the weekend. Awarded Best Band at the BRIT Awards twice and having headlined Glastonbury after the release of their second album ‘The Man Who’ we’re thrilled to welcome them to the festival. The critically acclaimed Editors also join us on the Saturday, adding their own brand of dark indie rock to...

Live Review: Victorious Festival @ Southsea Seafront.

Southsea’s Victorious Festival is now in it’s fourth year and has seen nigh on exponential growth in that time. The site certainly is vast. Although the festival has no less than 10 performance spaces of varying size and scope – much of it showcasing local talent – my attention was focused on the two principle Castle and Common stages. With a few clashes and a not inconsiderable transit time between them, getting the best out of Victorious does take a little planning. It rained practically all day on Saturday and Castle stage afternoon acts such as Birmingham band Jaws and...
