Live: Todd Rundgren @ Shepherds Bush Empire London.

The electronic pioneer returns. With help from guitar maestro, journalist and educator Jesse Gresse and The Tubes drummer Prairie Prince, Todd Rundgren blew our minds with a perfectly choreographed live DJ performance. Synchronising his Reason 7, iPad and Rack Extensions to create an exciting visual and sound show with the most vivid and over-powering light-show I have seen for some time. Wearing  his State ski goggles and a diamond patterned shirt which picked up the luminance of ultra violet rays and made him look thinner and younger he opened the set with Imagination. This eight  minute song gave Todd...

Live: Todd Rundgren Official State Visit

Todd Rundgren is my all-time favourite artist, musician and talker. He bought his State show to London and Shepherds Bush Empire to a less than sell out crowd but put on a fantastic performance full of energy and theatre that belied his 65 years. The set was dominated by songs from the new album State, interspersed with a few songs like Secret Society, Worldwide Epiphany and Truth Is and  some from the (re) Production album I was expecting a mainly electronic affair and it was a great surprise to see Todd play guitar, in State guise, on the opening...

Review: Todd Rundgren. State.

From the moment a friend showed me the gate-fold sleeve of “Something/Anything” I have been a Todd Rundgren follower. It is not always an easy journey, one moment a box of delights the next a Pandora’s box of annoyingly inane musical frustration. That is all part of the fun in Todd’s weird and wacky world. I don’t think I have ever listened to a Todd Rundgren release and liked all of the songs immediately. Some of those albums that at first I struggled with; “Initiation” “Hermit”, “Liars”, “The Individualist” and “Faithful” have become real favourites because I felt as...

Photography: Todd Rundgren @ Jazz Cafe

Todd played a very close up set to about 400 people in a great atmosphere (not much light). Very high ISO all round! The Jazz Cafe has no pit so photographers have to negotiate with fans to get a space for a song or two. TR played guitar for a couple of songs but mainly sat on a stool and sang with backing from the band which included Todd stalwarts Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince and Jesse Gresse. An enjoyable show with Todd running through a song from each album. Highlights for me were Flaw, Lost Horizon and Love of...
