Glenn Hughes Interview: Trust, Openness & No Fear

Glenn Hughes may have lived in California for more than 40 years, but the Black Country will forever be his home. His birthplace of Cannock gave rise to the band Trapeze, which launched a five-decade-and-counting career for the singer and bassist. Stints in Deep Purple and Black Sabbath led to a successful solo career that’s included high-profile collaborations with the likes of Pat Thrall, Tony Iommi, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.   But even though he’d long since swapped the West Midlands for the West Coast, when Hughes, singer-guitarist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham, and keyboard...

Photography: Joe Bonamassa @ Royal Albert Hall

Joe Bonamassa – two-time Grammy-award nominated guitarist and vocalist – does not need an introduction. This year he is back in the UK to promote his twelfth studio album Blues Of Desperation. The album was recorded in just five days in Nashville’s Grand Victorian Sound Studios (previously known as RCA Studio A) under the watchful eyes of Bonamassa’s longtime producer Kevin Shirley along with drummers Anton Fig & Greg Morrow, bassist Michael Rhodes and keyboardist Reese Wynans.  This combo is a simple recipe for success. As expected, Bonamassa’s new proposal is the kind of material that redefines the blues-rock genre. Blues Of Desperation appears to be...

Review: Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa. Seesaw.

Bop! ‘You have a cute way of flirting, makes me feel so good’ punches in the opening track “Them There Eyes”, encompassing swinging big band sounds which will be something of a listening revolution for core Joe Bonamassa fans. From the first note of “Seesaw” fronted by Beth Hart’s vocals, the album breaks from tradition, taking the listener on a challenging life journey, visiting every emotion and culminating with a harsh death by hanging. The aptly named new album opens vaults of classic Blues, Folk & Soul classics all originally made famous by other American artists going as far...
