Canadian singer/songwriter AHI (pronounced “eye”) has released his new single, Straight Ahead. It’s the latest to be taken from his forthcoming album, In Our Time, due for release via 22nd Sentry/Thirty Tigers on 10th August 2018. The single has been released in conjunction with news of a seven-date UK tour supporting The Lone Bellow, taking in a stop at Omeara, London on 3rd September.
The new single draws inspiration from the quote “put your blinders on and keep going” and is just over three and a half minutes of beautiful, uplifting music. The message is to ignore the tempting forks in the road and follow your heart without any regrets. AHI’s soulful, husky voice silkily delivers the message, complemented by acoustic guitars and joyful backing vocals. This is a demonstration that sometimes the most powerful messages are best given with simplicity.
The single release follows previous support from Billboard, American Songwriter, and Clash, as well as tips at Nashville’s DIY Musician Conference 2017. Earlier this year the Canadian drew the attention of NPR who invited him in for one of their esteemed Tiny Desk Sessions in January 2018.
Bob Boilen from NPR said: “It was powerfully moving, without a note that felt clichéd or overly nostalgic. At that moment, I knew he needed to play a Tiny Desk Concert.”
AHI’s 2016 independently released Canadian debut We Made It Through The Wreckage was released digitally worldwide in January 2017. Without any promotion, publicity, marketing, or budget to pull from, AHI’s songs were gradually discovered, reaching and converting one new fan at a time. His intimate and captivating live performances only enhanced and accelerated interest.
The album began to receive recognition in Canada and beyond with AHI winning the 2017 Canadian Songwriting Competition award for Folk/Singer-Songwriter and the 2017 Stingray Rising Star Award for the infectious Ol’ Sweet Day, a song that would make the Billboard Spotify Viral 50 Chart and go on to receive over 2.5 million streams.
