Ethan Gruska’s video for the song Reoccurring Dream perfectly represents the moving lyrics in the song. Someone whom you love and admire does not want you back. You can imagine the hurt and longing and the “punch in the stomach” feeling.

Rising US singer/songwriter Ethan Gruska’s deeply personal debut album Slowmotionary will be released July 28th on Sire Records. Alongside the release Ethan will be playing his first ever UK show at The Slaughtered Lamb July 26th.

Produced by Tony Berg (Andrew Bird, Aimee Mann), championed by the infamous Lenny Waronker and written by Ethan Gruska, Slowmotionary includes 12 songs mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig. All 12 tracks embrace a range of sounds and styles, with influences from jazz and folk to ambient and alternative.

In addition to Ethan on various instruments (piano, guitar and drums to name a few), the album features an array of talented musicians including Blake Mills on guitar, Rob Moose (Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver) on strings and violin, Gabe Noel (Pete Yorn) on cello and bass and Ethan’s sister, Barbara Gruska (Jenny Lewis), on percussion.

“What I hope is that people can sense the vulnerability in the writing,” Ethan told us. “I didn’t want perfect. I wanted true. I wanted honest. I didn’t want to hide behind anything. That’s why it’s produced and arranged the way it is. It’s very barren at certain moments. These songs slow down time for me, which is why I called it Slowmotionary. I needed to put myself out there musically and lyrically.”

Ethan recently completed a successful tour as opener for the acclaimed Danish singer-songwriter Agnes Obel on her North American tour and played a spellbinding set at Bonnaroo. Ethan will play the Slaughtered Lamb July 26th and play a special show at Rough Trade West on the 29th.
