Florence + The Machine have today announced a short series of tiny shows across the UK and US next month, no doubt to showcase material from their hotly anticipated fourth studio album following the surprise release of brand new track Sky Full Of Song, which appeared on 7” vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day. The tour will kick off at Halifax’s Victoria Theatre and close out its UK leg at London’s Royal Festival Hall before taking in three dates across Brooklyn and Los Angeles in the US.

The British group, fronted by 31-year-old Camberwell-raised Florence Welch, struck gold (or rather 5x Platinum!) with debut record Lungs in 2009, which spawned five well-charting singles, closed out by Welch’s now signature rendition of Candi Staton’s massive You Got The Love. The album peaked at #1 on the UK album chart, a feat repeated with each subsequent record, the latest of which managed the same in the U.S. as well as other territories.
Last year’s Glastonbury Festival saw Dave Grohl dedicating Foo Fighters’ hit single Times Like These to Welch following Florence + The Machine’s cover of the song played on the Pyramid stage in 2015 as Welch & co. were promoted to headline slot following Foo Fighters withdrawal due to Grohl’s leg injury. “As I was sitting in my wheelchair, all of a sudden, she played a Foo Fighters song, way better than we’ve ever played a Foo Fighters song”, praised Grohl of the performance.
This year Florence + The Machine will support none other than British rock legends The Rolling Stones at their second London Stadium show on 25th May and Welch will release her first book entitled Useless Magic, described as a collection of lyrics, artwork and poetry which offer a unique, personal insight into her creative process.
