Rock ‘n’ Roll is the new single to be released by Arkansas musician Jesse Wells AKA Welles. An irresistible melting pot of sweaty riffs, psychedelia and classic song writing, Rock ‘n’ Roll is a perfect indication of what to expect from Welles’ debut album, due for release by 300 Entertainment on 15th June.
The track also serves as the perfect follow up to Welles’ packed out UK debut at the Shacklewell Arms in February, which saw the 4 piece band tear through Red Trees and White Trashes as well has tracks from their critically acclaimed debut, the Codeine EP, which received support from Nylon, Consequence of Sound and Paste in the US and resulted in Welles being invited to open up for Royal Blood on their most recent US tour.
Jesse’s voice is the first thing that catches your attention – intrinsic to Welles’ output is Jesses’s ability to unleash as much emotion from a quiet murmur as a wild howl. The bulk of debut album Red Trees and White Trashes, was written whilst Jesse was living in a communal art compound in the college town of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Friends of varying artistic disciplines all shared an apartment building they dubbed Space Mountain.
“Some of us worked on bicycles, some of us were doing painting and art,” he told us. “It was our own little Andy Warhol experiment. It was crazy.”
