Singer, producer and guitarist Amber Bain – aka The Japanese House – had an incredible 2015. From hooking up with drummer George Daniel and frontman Matt Healy from chart-topping alt. rockers The 1975 to produce her music to releasing well-received first EP Pools To Bathe In, with single Still being Zane Lowe’s last ever Hottest Record on Radio 1. Second EP Clean was then released, adding a further four floaty tracks to her repertoire. Only now does the 20-year-old Londoner really have the combined material to put on headline shows of her own. But given her vocal style is...Read More
April 1st is globally known as April Fool’s Day, when practical jokes and hoaxes are played on friends, the story line behind the bluff sets up a stage for pranks and merriment. Consequently it is with brave commitment that Eric Johnson chooses this day as his release date for his latest album “Up Close – Another Look”, which features guest appearances from Steve Miller, Jimmie Vaughan Johnny Lang and Sonny Landreth. EJ’s sixth studio release, within an 8 year span since 2005, comprises 12 compositions (plus one live bonus track), which were originally released in the US in 2010...Read More
In 1910 a boy was born to a family of nomadic gypsies camped outside the village of Liberchies in Belgium. A capacity crowd on a Mothering Sunday saw folk queuing outside on this bitterly cold night. The doors finally opened at 7.30 p.m....Read More
One of my favourite and most challenging bands to photograph. I love their sound and trying to keep up with lead singer and guitarist Ritzy Bryan is a bit like trying to hit a moving target. The band musically are stuck somewhere between stadium rock and good old indie rock and roll. I think the venue size does make a difference to their performance and whilst they are energetic and polished the Roundhouse is not the best place for them to show off. The Joy Formidable have always been into their fans and great them like old friends and...Read More
What a thrill to photograph Tom Petty. One of my all time favourites and the cool dude friend everyone wants to have. I was actually nervous before hand and I contacted a few photographers who had been there on the previous date to ensure I got it right. What a great show and great sound. First three songs and out. Listen to Her Heart was the opener, followed by the theatrical You Wreck Me and I Won’t Back Down. After I had gone to file my pictures, I heard that Steve Winwood came on stage and did two songs...Read More
