Pentatonix may sound like a thrash metal band but they are, in fact, an American a cappella quintet that have been taking the US by storm following winning the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off reality TV show back in 2011, which resulted in the group winning a recording contract with Sony. They’ve since gone on to win multiple Grammy awards, release four well-received EPs and three further albums including last year’s eponymous US chart-topping effort. Comprised of Texans Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado and counter-tenor Mitch Grassi along with Visalia, California-native Avi Kaplan on bass vocals and Owensboro, Kentucky-born...Read More
Hailing from Denver in Colorado, The Lumineers were born out of tragedy in 2002 when founding members Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion) came together to write music following the impromptu death of Fraites’ brother and Schultz’s best friend Josh aged just 19 from a drugs overdose. Returning to the Brixton Academy the Californian four-piece strolled onto the stage, their famous illuminated “W” sign behind them, to screams from their five-year patient London audience, tearing straight into White Album opener California Kids. Frontman Rivers Cuomo,...Read More
Like most photographers I love to have a snap at Slash the famous guitarist from Guns & Roses. The light shows are strong and atmospheric. He has a follow spot that actually follows him and he poses like crazy. It was my first time photographing at the Brixton Academy and it was a blast, nice wide pit and the stage long and high but at eye level for the photographer. Some of my images appear in this special edition of Classic Rock present Slash magazine: https://slash.tmstor.es/ Share21 Tweet7 Stumble2 Pin +1...Read More
