I could not quite believe that this was Albert Hammond’s first UK tour since 1973. Then the song Free Electric Band was at number 3 in the Top 40.
His intimate performance at the Union Chapel was a real treat although I can’t help feeling that the show was under attended. Perhaps more photographers than audience?
Albert Hammond wrote some of the best hit songs of the 70′s including “99 Miles from LA”, “The Air That I Breathe” “Down By The River”, “I’m A Train” and “When I Need You” to name a few.
Great performance, The photographers were allowed to shoot the whole set. I was hoping for some shafts of evening light to waft through the church but their was a thunderstorm outside so lighting was a little tricky.
Im between the songs were stories and anecdotes of how the songs were written. “It Never Rains in California” was a misheard line about trains in California repeated back to him by song writing partner Mike Hazlewood.
