The photos are a little grainy and are really cropped in. I was not at Womad shooting Gil but on a family weekend. We go every year but it was a highlight for me to see Gil and such a shame to hear of his death. When I first started work in a record store in the 1980′s I had not heard of him but was soon introduced to the albums he made with Brian Jackson. Through his work and style I then discovered groups like the Last Poets and Watts artists.

I also discovered recently that his father played football for Glasgow Celtic.

These were taken on a 5D with a 24-105mm lens.
