Following the news that Malala Yousafzai has earned a place at Oxford University, The Vex have shared a tribute to the young advocate for women’s right to education.

Featuring lyrics like “for this fearless heroine, the nation unites” Education Kills deals directly with the resilience and bravery of the young Nobel laureate who survived an assassination attempt by a Pakistan Taliban gunman in 2012.

With a video shot against the backdrop of Big Ben and directed by Sam Holmes, the lead track from the London band’s self-titled EP follows The Clash template of pairing politically aware lyrics with punk riffs.

Formed in 2012, the line-up of Josh Schwegler (guitar and vocals), Jack O’Shea (guitar and vocals), Andrew Atari (bass), and Joshua De Facto (drums) came together when their previous band was offered a management deal by Adam Ant.

The group members who rejected the offer formed The Vex, going on to play their debut gig at Moscow’s BlastFest before honing their sound – halfway between Kingston and London – back in the shadow of Big Ben.
