American pop superstar Katy Perry has just gone and announced a run of European shows next summer in support of fourth studio album Witness, dropping on 9th June, including 7 dates in the UK with one stop (so far) at East London’s O2 Arena, her first headline show there since winding up a 4-show run in support of third album Prism back in 2014.
The Californian girl just played the 200-capacity Water Rats venue in London’s Kings Cross ahead of her BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival appearance, and will return to the UK for this weekend’s Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert at the city’s Old Trafford stadium in support of the victims of the recent bombing outside Grande’s Manchester Arena show on 22nd May alongside Grande, Coldplay, Take That and Miley Cyrus before playing Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid stage on 24th June ahead of The National and headliners Foo Fighters.
Perry then kicks off a massive 48 date tour across the US and Canada in July, which winds up next May before she heads across the Atlantic once more for her 17 dates in Europe, kicking off at Cologne’s Lanxess Arena and closing out at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
The 32-year-old’s Arena shows are known for their extravagance featuring changing themes, outfits and moving stages. Her Prismatic tour over 2014 and 2015 featured neon-clad dancers, an ancient Egyptian section, a Cats musical bit and a separate acoustic stage to cover just a few parts so expect her to crank it up a notch this time out. Does anyone remember ‘Left Shark’ from last year’s Super Bowl XLIX halftime show or her stage-diving dancing house from this year’s Brit Awards performance? Bring it Katy!
Tickets go on presale from Wednesday 7th June and general sale from Friday 9th June.
