AUTUMN RUIN: WE MADE OUR DAMN LUCK, FRESH EP FROM MANCHESTER JUST IN TIME FOR THE COLD SEASON
With Autumn now here, the debut EP from Autumn Ruin has been released. This Manchester’s five has been playing for over a year now and after three successful singles they put out their first EP “We Made Our Damn Luck”. Celebration for the release began with shows Manchester and London.
Last year was pretty intense for the band. After completing their first ever mini headline tour, they followed that straight after with live dates with Hertfordshire’s based band Room 94, supporting their Lost Youth Tour and playing a couple festivals. They have already a strong fan base and that shouldn’t be really surprising, with their youthful look and fresh sound, they are on the way to break a heart or two. Autumn Ruin’s music is a perfect mixture of sweet, melodic, pop-rock with a hint of some heavy tunes thrown in, and they do play loud.
Their videos are being played on Kerrang TV but it is at a live show that makes this band stand out. On stage they’re a ball of energy. It is hard to believe that the building can still stand after the have hammered their instruments.
Alastair Carrington sings to the crowd, owns the stage as provoker, and rules the audience. It somehow resembles the way Bono connects with the audience then caresses and owns them. He might be a magician but he would be lost without the rest of the boys. The band is much more than the lead singer.
Guitarist Rob Galley and Alastair Dowey are the ones who shape the band with a unique tone. Their twin guitars talk in Neo Thin Lizzy style to each other, sometimes duelling with each other but never just fills the gaps. Their sound echoes Linkin Park in a way of playing but without copying. It is crisp and goes really well with the strong rhythm section represented by Sam Gibson on drums and Rob Lafferty on bass.
The new EP brings five songs is like slicing Battenberg cake with a chainsaw. Crisp sections, clear lines, intriguing vocal and the brutal cut of distorted guitar. A tempting and well-balanced portion of the modern rock. So don’t fear the Autumn. The season might be tempered by rain, wind, and all things dark, but it will be saved by music, in fact by Autumn Ruins new EP.
