Following two successful years on the road supporting 2014’s breakout album Lunatic, Kongos returned home in late 2015 with a bevy of ideas. The guys wrote initial demos separately and convened at Tokoloshe Studios, their full-scale production studio located in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.
While sharing ideas, they collectively realized a thematic commonality, which would eventually inform the creation of Egomaniac, a new album packed with thirteen exciting tracks.
These range from the blues guitar-driven accordion shuffle of I Don’t Mind, which instantly became a live favorite, to the skittering electronics and sharp commentary on Autocorrect and the epic send-off at the heart of Look At Me and the great new single Take It From Me.
In 2014, Come With Me Now from the album Lunatic put Kongos on the musical map. The group became unanimously recognised as one of rock music’s most infectious and invigorating new voices as the track went globally viral more. The video has been viewed over 45 million times and you can see it here http://smarturl.it/CWMNvideo.
The band made a flying visit to the UK for their only confirmed UK gig of the year at Dingwalls in Camden, London on 19th July before they headed to their birth country of South Africa for a string of dates.
Next comes a full-scale North American headline tour this autumn including the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas in September. The multiplatinum rock band, then play major cities, coast to coast, concluding on 29th October at The Crescent Ballroom Outdoors in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona for Dia De Los Kongos.
The brothers, Johnny, Jesse, Dylan, and Danny have music in their blood. Their father John Kongos landed multiple chart hits in the seventies, including He’s Gonna Step On You Again which was famously reworked by Happy Mondays in 1990. The boys were encouraged to pick up instruments at a young age and now, they’ve got a musical legacy all of their own.
