The new HBO/Sky Atlantic television series, Vinyl, is a about the music industry. Starting in 1973 it is shot with feature film like quality and produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. In fact the first two hour episode is directed by Martin Scorsese and has a Mean Streets, Taxi Driver vibe about it.

Songs are played through in their entirety and not just excerpts so it is like listening to records as you watch the film. Starting with the rise of Glam Rock, the series takes in many era’s of music and follows Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale), who, after initial big hits, is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path.

New York City is used to great effect as a backdrop to the first episode which will run on Sky Atlantic on 15th February.
